Why "Dasan House"?

The name Dasan House holds deep personal meaning. It is inspired by my grandson, Dasan—a child whose presence represents hope, love, and the promise of a brighter future. His name reminds us why we do this work: to create a world where every child, every individual, and every family has the opportunity to grow, to feel safe, and to belong.

The word House was chosen because a home represents more than just a physical space—it’s a foundation. It’s where healing begins, where people are nurtured, and where they find stability and support. At Dasan House, we aim to offer that same sense of safety and belonging to those in need in our community.

Together, Dasan House symbolizes both the inspiration of a child’s potential and the power of a caring, supportive environment to help people thrive.

Meet the Founder

My name is Deirdre McKinney, a proud native of New Orleans, Louisiana. With a Bachelor of Science in Addiction Counseling and a Master’s Degree in Public Health, I have dedicated over 20 years of my life to working in the mental health and substance abuse field.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving individuals and families facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. It was through this work that I witnessed, firsthand, the profound needs within our communities—needs that often go unmet due to lack of access, support, and resources.

My passion for service and community empowerment inspired the founding of this organization. Here, we are committed to creating meaningful change by offering compassionate, accessible, and community-centered support to those who need it most.
